70% of Conservative Catholics in Ireland vote for Gay Marriage

“We’re the first country in the world to enshrine marriage equality in our constitution and do so by popular mandate, that makes us a beacon, a light to the rest of the world of liberty and equality, so it’s a very proud day to be Irish,” said Leo Varadkar, an Irish Cabinet minister.

Ireland votes YES on gay marriageThis is a big win for justice, fairness and kindness in the world. It looks like about 70% of Irish voters changed their constitution to give equal rights and a nice day to all people of Ireland.

The declining 30% are of course from the rural areas, where like here in the states, they wake up to the smell of manure in the morning. Which leads one to understand that there is little difference between the sheeppoop in Ireland and the cowpoop, horsepoop, pigpoop, and chichenpoop here in America.  It all somehow gets into the brain causing serious cognitive damage. Please take the time to think about how the movement of civilization toward and liberal democracies conincided with less manure running down our streets. On to something there hey?

Ireland got rid of the birth control laws a generation ago but are still struggling with legalizing abortion. Though it is a much different story there than here as a woman needs only  hop on the  inexpensive Dun Laoghaire ferry to merry old England for an inexpensive risk free abortion. So what does the law really matter there?

There is a big difference between gay marriage and abortion, the former is no skin off anyone’s nose while the latter is the end of a potential human which though a personal decision is still a hard decision.

So where does that leave the United States?  We will see next month when it all comes down to our one Irish Supreme Court justice.  This constitutional event in Ireland just may help Justice Kennedy do the right thing. Keep in mind that Scalia, Thomas and Alito put their religion and their ideology above the constitution and should recurse themselves on any decision involving social issues. .

Isn’t it strange that our Supreme Court consists of 6 Catholics, 3 Jews and no Protestants?
