Hard-charging dynamo Donald Trump, is feeling kinda low-energy these days. To recharge his batteries, he is embarking on a two-week vacation at his New Jersey golf club. Apparently Trump’s position on presidential vacations has evolved radically over the past six months, given his tweet history about President Barack Obama. Jimmy Kimmel has assembled some of Trump’s critical tweets from the Obama years.
Trump complained endlessly about Obama’s golfing mania. One of Trump’s campaign promises was that he would “not be a president who took vacations,” adding that he would rarely leave the White House (that dump) “because there’s so much work to be done.”
I think you’ll see quite a difference in Trump’s views about the importance of presidential golf. Trump played more golf in his first month than Obama did in his entire first year!
Trips aren’t cheap when you’re the big cheese. Estimates of the Trump family vacation are not available yet, but Trump’s weekend getaway trips to Mar-a-Lago and his other resorts cost the taxpayers $1 Million per weekend, and he is out of the White House several weekends per month. It’s fair to say that financially this family fun fest will be a whopper. Just for comparison: Trump has reportedly already spent more than $21 million on travel so far in his presidency, which would outpace Obama’s entire 8-year travel budget by the end of 2017.
