The polls on abortion change little in 40 years

abortion polls

We have been hearing a lot lately about the polls showing an even up on abortion rights. No that is not true, the polls in question show only who call themselves the subjective terms of either “Pro Life” or “Pro Choice.”

As to the right of women to have an abortion to viability it has changed little in 40 years.

As we all know, polls are dependent upon two things, time and the question. In this recent Gallup poll we find that those who want to keep Roe v Wade to those who want to deny that right to all women, 53 to 29, or a 24 point spread in favor of Roe V Wade. And if you ask the question for just the first trimester it’s 70% backing Roe v Wade.

But looking at the graph there is a question that needs to be addressed. What happened to the polls in 2006? Support for Roe hit an all time high and then suddenly went down 13 points, while support for overturning Roe was steadily dropping and then suddenly went up 7 points. Whats up with that?
