The Associate Press along with various other research from conservative Sanford University and the conservative University of Chicago shows racism has risen from 48% to 51% over the last 4 years. Sure there is a story in that, mostly about how well the racial and immigrant propaganda from the talk radio, Fox News, the Tea Party and the Republican Party has worked on white Americans.
But the real story is not the rise in American racism but the status quo.
In this study they used both explicit and implicit questionnaires in their research. “Explicit” means asking direct questions about how one feels about race. “Implicit” is more of a psychological formula. As Republicans will reject psychology out of hand as they do any science the do not agree with, I will not use the implicit figures here. 51% of Americans now express explicit anti-black attitudes, compared with 48% four years ago.
52% of non-Hispanic whites expressed anti-Hispanic attitudes.
79% of Republicans expressed explicit racial prejudice compared to 32% of Democrats.
