Bubba called today to squawk about Mexicans. I have to give it to Bubba, he is honest enough to not waste words differentiating their legality, Mexicans are Mexicans who should all be living in Mexico. Since Lou Dobbs went ballistic on this issue, Bubba now switches channels from his default FOX NEWS to watch CNN in the Dobb's evenings, which now happens to be the same time I turn off CNN for some Hank and Homer.
I must say, old Lou has gone singularly berserk on this immigration business. Perhaps as a child he was wrapped in a tortilla and abandoned at a bus stop in Escarsaga. Whatever the problem it's serious. In fact I just read that the main issues involved in all this; that illegal immigrants pull down wages, cause unemployment, are more criminal that average, appreciably affect taxes for services and are going to blow up Chicago are either lies or highly exaggerated crap.
So Bubba called regarding some hippies who disrupted a Mexicans Go Home rally in downtown Houston the other day. There were almost a hundred white-wing bigots, mostly middle aged women and whacked out Vietnam veterans draped in flags with nothing better to do, while about half that many kids held up signs reflecting upon that bigotry. Not much of a demonstration either way you look at it, but it was pleasant seeing some young people take to the streets doing the right thing rather than whooping and hollering in front of the Death Chamber down here in Huntsville.
So Bubba joined the Minutemen Border Patrol and wants me to ride down to Brownsville with him to man a guard post for a week. I might go. I need a trip, and knowing Bubba, the van will be full of beer and lots of chicken fried steak. And grits! What the hell, I can get drunk in a field and plonk at stuff with Bubba's guns for a few days. If I come across any Mexicans, I'll give them a ride up to Houston on my way home. After all, the influx of Hispanics over the years affecting the vote is the only reason Texas hasn't reinstated slavery.
You KNOW it's sinking when the rats are finally starting to feign disgust at
their own, and scrambling for a higher place on board to ride out the storm!
Kinda nice for a change. They won't point to Captain Rat of the corrupt
S.S. Conservative Fambly Values - no matter what.
As if we're going to be distracted by the "shiny keys" shaken at us of Foley
and his foibles, and forget about the dirty downright lies surrounding 9/11.
At least I HOPE the country isn't that dumbed down yet!

their whole families can bring in our crops - dirt cheap...speaking of dirt,
some nosey reporter came by this morning
and was taking pictures of the nice little cabins we provide for a small fee! They seem to think that just because they're old, have dirt floors,
and aren't as nice as our chicken coop that it's inhumane, called 'em "pest filled shacks."

a few who think the business men who HIRE illegals should be the ones who're
deported, fined, or jailed..can you just IMAGINE! Just rent that movie "A Day Without A Mexican" and see what kind
of devastation would happen to all of us!
Some of them California folks would have to mow their OWN yards and take care of their own houses and kids!
It'd cost 'em a fortune to hire white
people to do all of that.

Where is there a gradual influx of Mexicans? From Canada maybe. There's nothing gradual about the influx coming from the southern border.
I think Mexicans are good people and an asset to this country. In fact I think they are great people, BUT I don't want to leave the door wide open here either. There's a limit to how many people we can take in.
All of this cheap labor has an effect on wages. Employers say Americans won't take the jobs but that's because the wages are too low and they'll never go up as long as employers can fill their needs with illegal immigrants. Granted, wages would have to be very high to get Americans out in the fields picking produce, but what about all of the other industries that rely on immigrants?
The construction trades for instance? With the cost of housing being what it is you can't tell me that they have to rely on immigrants to build houses.
I guess it all comes down to how close to the border one lives... And here in Texas that doesnt apply because South Texas is pretty much controlled by Mexicans of one sort or another. National figures do not show them depressing wages, its only a few counties in a few states. Feds should compensate.
How many white guys in rush limbaugh red ties want to pick lettuce? I am for increased latino immigration because they are better people than we are, so they make this country better. Which is in dire need of betterment! :)
I know a few white guys who would be glad to pick out some leaf spinach for Rush Limbaugh. Just enough to sicken him for a couple days -- like listening to the first 5 minutes of his radio program does to most thinking people.

Nah ahhh, here in Minnesodahhhh, we have a huge Latin population and we aren't anywhere near da border :-) They all work harder than the bratty spoiled white kids, too...and they don't complain! They're just happy to be ABLE to work. Seems some of the kids around here could take some lessons from the Latin American folks. Hey...do ya know that our "Taco Bells" around here finally make tacos now that actually TASTE good?! Instead of tasting like Lefse filled with lettuce, they actually have some flavor. Gotta love the Latin influence! YAHSUREYOUBETCHA!
I'll agree with ya that by and large they are

As for your lowered wages, take a look around at the bigger picture and see how many major companies are "outsourcing"
to other countries. These are major corporations, and our very own government in some cases..and those are BIG BUCKS,
and REAL job loss, not some lettuce picking
or hedge trimming.
Methinks the amount of

The job market is getting hit on both ends. These "H1B" visas are killing white collar jobs. Employers claim they can't find qualified engineers and such. That's a crock! They can find them. There are plenty of out of work guys in their fifties. These companies just don't want to pay them a fair wage.
And if they really can't find qualified people, then they should spend the money train American citizens to do those jobs.
Just because an immigrant in North America speaks better Spanish than English, doesn't mean they are Mexican. You've got families coming up from all different Central American countries. They are every bit as much Americans as North American residents from Mexico City to New York City.

At the local rally day, someone protesting the protestors carried a sign claiming "Illegals Kill 6 Americans Every Day!"
At best they are misquoting a faulty 'study' -- the original incorrectly claimed illegals were responsible for up to 6 deaths per day (half of them other illegals).
You can't exclude them as Americans in the first part of a statement, and then call them Americans again in the same breath, just because it is convenient for one's own propaganda.
