Dems deliver on promise (From Yahoo News)
Indeed they did! It's good news for the 479,000 people who have been living on the minimum wage of $5.15 per hour, and the millions who receive just one dollar more. All of these happy campers living in the nation of plenty are below poverty level if they work 40 hours a week, and have a family of three. This is the first increase since 1997 when Clinton and a Republican congress raised the minimum from $4.75 to the $5.15 we've been living it up on low these past ten years. Don't rush out to "Tarjay" to buy baby those new shoes just yet. It will take over two years to reach the new minimum of $7.25 per hard earned dollar. Call me an ingrate, a cynic, or whatever you wish, but the bloom fades from this rose of plenty when you realize that it had to be included in another bill which the president wanted, else he vowed to veto it. He just wants a few lil' things really, one of which was one hundred BILLION to fund wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. I don't believe there was a two year phase in period for those funds.
The final insult to injury? Just one of the nifty ways of raising revenue to fund this staggering increase for us,
is that you will be subject to increased penalties should you be so impoverished that your IRS check bounces. Invest wisely. I'm thinking canned goods, and "futures" in garden seed perhaps?
