I am nearly as excited to see Orwell's "1984" to come to fruition, as I am to have a case of Montezuma's Revenge. I know that won't fare well with the techies who have each new gadget and laud every new step we make toward that electronic world. I was torn when Google came out with Google Earth. Pseudo Stalkers were sending me pics of the top of my house, blurry, but accurate.
While it was cool to see the general area my friends lived, or places I'd dreamed of visiting, it is an entirely new ball game IMHO with Google's new "Street View" which is just out for your enjoyment..ya perv. Now, rather than stalkers sending you pics of the top of your home, if you're in a location where the cameras are stationed, he can also tell you what you wore to take out the trash, and whether you were picking your nose. (not that we'd ever DO that, of course). The point being that the new technology enables anyone, anywhere to view you close up and VERY personal! At present, it is available in San Francisco, New York, Denver, and Miami, with plans to expand to a city near you soon!
Some sorry folks have been caught doing just the very things mentioned Not only that, but close up views of co-ed sunbathers, someone sleeping it off in his car, and a group of Miami anti choice protesters who gather once a week, it is felt that these pictures can further discourage women from seeking help at the clinic. A Google spokesperson said it was "No different than from what any person can see and capture walking down the street." I beg to differ, I don't go out on the street, or even the yard in a shambles which I'd even want the neighbors to see, I peek out of the windows first! Soon, it seems they can peek INTO the windows, no matter how dreary the subject matter might be. Please recall the words of dear ol' Mum, and always wear yer best undies.
