"Hey Facebook breast feeding is not obscene!"
Facebook has done it now. They're finding that their 140 million users are a diverse group, no longer dominated by teenagers. Case in point is Kelli Roman, a 23-yr-old nursing mom. Having placed a photo of herself nursing one of her children, she soon found it missing.
Now, Facebook has over 97,000 members who have started a facebook group by the name "Hey Facebook breast feeding is not obscene." A "virtual nurse-in" was held, with 11,000 women substituting their profile pics for photos of breast feeding. A real world nurse-in was held at Facebook headquarters in Palo Alto CA. Ten women breast fed their babies at the front door. As you can imagine, it drew attenion from media but Facebook employees were few the Saturday after Christmas.
What is Facebook's official policy in light of the ever-increasingly militant moms? Barry Schnitt offical spokesman, stated the company guidelines regarding exposed flesh would allow most breast-feeding photos. What has gone wrong with these women? He continued, "Facebook draws the line at a visible nipple or areola, he said. Facebook also nixes pictures showing the gluteal cleft"While we pause to look up the word "gluteal cleft" it would seem some of the mothers may have stepped over the line in their zeal to share their joy with others.
Breast feeding moms protest Facebook nudity rules: no nipples, areolas, or glutial clefts please
