Like a sudden onslaught of sparrows to Capistrano, nude hikers seem to have 'discovered' Switzerland. The phenomenon became apparent last summer. Most of the hikers are German, and drawn to Appenzell Innerrhoden. I'd say if you can
pronounce it, you can stroll there any way you please.
Swiss authorities do not share either my opinion or the German fondness for obtaining a oneness with nature with no pesky clothing. The Swiss plan is to fine the free swinging spirits trekking in the mountain region. As an example of the extreme difference in feelings, Melchior Looser, justice minister said, "We were forced to introduce the legislation against this indecent practice before the warm weather starts,"
Who knew? "FKK", or "free body culture", is a popular pastime in Germany. The Swiss would prefer if they kept it - all in Germany, unless they're clothed. I assume the German children are no more warped than those from other countries,
but as in moral discussions everywhere, it's always "the children."Looser added:"The point is many children visit our mountains in the summer." Frustration set in when a brazen hiker was stopped last autumn, but could not be fined or detained as there was no naked rambling law. That - is going to change, so beware you "indecent" practitioners of FKK!
P.S. This is also a warning to any hotel management in places like Kansas or Oklahoma who are approached by a large convention. While seeing dollar signs, be certain to check and see if the organization is called "FKK." There's a lot of prairie, but few trees for cover.
