A little premise for this story for you. A few months ago the "as good old boy as it gets" Pasadena, Texas Police kicked a Mexican American to death while in custody, investigation pending.
Yesterday we learned that the two burglary suspects Joe Horn shot - he shot in the back. Today we find that they were shot from 7 to 10 feet away - in the back. No wonder the coroner had trouble for two weeks figuring out what were exit and entrance wounds. As Mr. Horn is on vacation, how do we know these details? Because while Joe Horn was on the phone with 911 being told not to go outside as police were on the way, a plain clothes police officer had promptly arrived at the scene and watched the murders unfold. The officer driving an unmarked car said he did not do anything because he thought Joe Horn might assume he was involved and kill him too. Or perhaps, he sat there thinking this would all pan out as less work for the police and the courts while saving the citizens of Pasadena money at the cost of only a couple dead [fill in the blank]. That of course will never be known.
We also learned that when the burglars left the scene they fled across a corner of Horn's front yard. Joe Horn's attorney claims it was self defense because Horn was in fear of his life. Two unarmed black guys backing up to you must indeed be terrifying for fat old white men with a loaded 12 guage shotgun. Pasadena police say Horn shot 2 men in the back - Houston Chronicle

It's a sad day when you realize that not all human life is precious. Then you have to decide who contributes to society and who steals from it. Maybe one day Rack will understand all of this. I'm not saying Mr. Horn did the right thing, but I'm not going to lie to myself and say that the two gentlemen coming out of the neighbor's window will be missed by more than their mothers and their girlfriends.
No one was particularly innocent in this situation.
Thank you Joe Horn, You have saved some eighty year old lady from being raped and murdered or some 19 year old convient store worker from being shot and killed. Thank you Joe its in there culture to kill rob and rape rest assure these two are not going to take some inocent good working peoples lives. I hope this gets all over so the blacks will see what happens when your caught commiting violet crime. If someone was home they would of cut there throat and killed them glad they died instead of the home owners.
I was wondering why I hadn't heard a response from my last two posts, they were on the first forum about this story. I'll copy and paste 'em.
I don't think RJ read my last response. Just a bit of info for those who don't intend on reading my post: it's not illegal to shoot someone in the back after committing burglary or robbery and while they are fleeing. While it's uncommon for someone to run backwards (allowing a chest-shot), usually when someone is fleeing they have their back turned. Read Penal Code PC 9.42 (2)(B)-(3)(B).
RJ, I totally and whole-heartedly agree with you about "gun crazy racist wannabe killers". I wish there weren't any in the world. But what you are doing is lumping folks who believe in taking a stand and being pro-active with people who just want to kill.
If this is true, it certainly makes me wonder as to the Quanell X fellow and his motives and affiliation with the new black panther party for wanting to get involved behind this one.
As to the picture you posted with the man with the confederate battle flag on his head - what evidence do you have that he was asked or endorsed, or even desired, to be there by Joe Horn in any of this. It really seems to be an instance of one side stirring s#it and everyone else wading in to be part of it too, and a scenario where no one comes out on top.
Here's the other article. A death threat for Mr. Horn, saying they're waiting for him in prison, and on the outside, either way. Who is they? If you want to call racism, then I'd ask whom you think is innocent on this one?

Death Threat Made In Homeowner Shooting Case
POSTED: 11:44 am CST December 10, 2007
UPDATED: 4:27 pm CST December 10, 2007
PASADENA, Texas -- An anonymous death threat was made against the Harris County District Attorney's Office and police said it was connected to a case of a homeowner accused of killing two burglary suspects at his neighbor's house, KPRC Local 2 reported Monday.
Officials said the caller threatened to kill Joe Horn, the homeowner, if the district attorney does not charge him with a crime.
Pasadena police said Joe Horn shot Hernando Torres and Diego Ortiz as they ran away from a home they broke into in the 7400 block of Timberline in the Village Grove East subdivision on Nov. 14.
The caller left a voice mail at the D.A's public integrity division. The recording lasted for several minutes. The caller did not leave his name.
"What you better do -- you better indict Joe Horn and you better find him guilty," the caller said. "If you don't, somebody's going to kill him. They're waiting on him in prison and we're waiting on him on the outside. Let me tell you something -- we're going to kill that (expletive). Bye."
Pasadena Capt. Bud Corbett said the caller left the threatening voice mail on Monday.
The district attorney's office has not yet received Horn's case from Pasadena police to determine if charges will be filed. Police are still reviewing the case.
"Obviously, there's a rather dramatic public debate on it and it is a rather monumental case, and it's always important to do a quality control review. But, it's probably more the pressing issue in a case of this magnitude," Corbett said.
A supporter of Horn's has created the site, joehornformyneighbor.com. The site urges people to leave supportive comments if they believe Horn was justified in shooting the men.
An autopsy revealed that the men were shot in the back. Investigators said a plainclothes officer witnessed the shootings and saw the two men crossing Horn's yard. One ran away while the other angled toward Horn and then ran away, the officer said.
Torres and Ortiz were in the United States illegally, detectives said.
Horn told police he shot the men in self-defense.
Police are expected to turn over evidence from their investigation to the district attorney's office in about a week. A grand jury will decide if Horn will face any criminal charges.
Community activist Quanell X and Torres' fiancée have said they want Horn to face murder charges.
Horn's attorney said his client, who is retired, does not have money needed to support his defense if he is charged.
Horn's attorney took the case free of charge.
Horn has not been living at his Pasadena home because of all the controversy surrounding the case
As the story unfolds, it looks like the two men had more than a "minor" history of skirmishes with the law. They seem to have been Colombian organized crime, with multiple IDs, including fake Puerto Rican birth certificates and drivers licenses, among other things, and were involved in house robbery, gun running and smuggling.
Regardless - I personally still don't agree with shooting fleeing suspects in the back.
That's a difficult moral delimma, and ultimately - what's one to do. I regret circumstances unfolded as they did, but I personally won't miss 2 less illegal gun trafficers and burglers off the streets for good.
I don't feel Mr. Horn was out looking for trouble that afternoon. He was sitting home in his house minding his own business and if these two weren't out robbing houses - they wouldn't have been shot.
I don't think Mr. Horn is some sort of loose-cannon that's a threat to anyone around him, and I wouldn't have a problem letting my own son go play in the man's yard.
I don't want anyone to think that I condone shooting someone in the back. I'm simply stating what the law will allow under legal circumstances. Whether or not you can/will/should do that is up to you.
WANTING and DOING and GOING OUT OF ONES WAY and THIRSTING TO shoot unarmed people in the back with a 12 guage shotgun from less than 10 feet away is was scumballs do. Two life sentences is deserved or we are going to have everybody shooting everyone else for the fun of it here...
Those who defend that are and have been the central deterrent to human progress for thousands of years.
How would it look if he shot them from 40 feet? You think because of THIS guy everyone is going to start shooting people for the "fun of it"? Get over yourself, man. No one in their right mind shoots people just to shoot them. Once again, stop putting gun owners in the same category as "wanna be killers".
Thank you Joe, There criminals and did have a crow bar and cimmited a crime. Some of you people talk like your pretty stupid. If two black guys break in your home with your wife and kids there are you going to start talking to them please dont do us harm dont hurt us.You can try that while they are raping your wife and kill your kids.Im not going too, white or black when you enter a mans home you know whats up, Im going to shoot and protect my family its not open for discussion, why are you in my house? do you have a weapon? are you going to hurt us? Come on. you will die, Take aim and shoot first dont get killed buy some two bit thug with gun or knife. Why is this even an issue the law states in TX you can protect your house and property as well as your neihbors house dont matter if there shot in the back.Did they run towards him and then turn away? Where you there to see this? Untill your in a situation like that how can you say what you would do other than shoot. What do you think would of happen to little old grandma if she were home????after they raped her they would of killed her no witnesses. And thats just what they do kill, kill, kill The only reason the black panther trouble makers showed up is because there two dead blacks, if they were white would they have came to protest? There is evil in all races but lets face it the blacks are in first place.Check the violent crime setistecks blacks are at the top of the list.If your stupid stand there and debate with some violent black whats going on.Its simple, thank you joe horn.Do you people even think about the inocent people that are not going to die now? There next crime spree someone would of died for the $39.00 they stoled.I would reather here the violent criminals are dead instead of the home owner. The black panthers should try in educate there kind to not commit these crimes. boo hoo no one will miss them.We have a right to protect our family.
Obviously, you must be one of those simple minded people who condones this hideous behavior. You're also uneducated and disconnected from the simple principals of life. I pray for you and those with the same mentality. Please stop making generalization about black and brown skinned people. We all don't go to prison. Most of us are and have a higher learning degree. Can you say the same.
Wow, from the looks of it, you all want you some vigilante justice. The cops would have been there in moments (just read the 911 transcripts). He wanted to kill them. Enjoy as your already gun-crazy, half-cocked state becomes the scene of bloodbath after bloodbath.
It just goes to show that human(black)life means nothing today. You(America) comdemn Mike Vick for dog fighting but a white man brutally shoots two unarmed men, he's considered a hero. We're no better than our so-called emnemies over in Irag. Some so-called Christians commend this terrible display of heroism, however, as a Christian I'm truly ashamed and appaulled by this disgraceful and distasteful behavior.
AND DATS A FACT.
No one was particularly innocent in this situation.
Gun crazy racist wannabe killers are the problem in this world, not burglars.
Thanx for pointing that out.
