As a lifelong hunter I fully agree with Barry Goldwater. There is no sport using a semiautomatic rifle with a 40 round clip to go hunting. That kind of hunting is all about yahoos in the woods not hunters. Oh, and there is an elephant in this room that is seldom if ever mentioned. The amount of beer and bourbon consumed by hunters surpasses that of even European soccer fans, and with the assault rifle crowd, even more that may be consumed in my back yard during Packer games.
So… It can be little argued that assault rifles for hunting is no sport. Any 9 year old can kill a deer or someone standing close by with one.
Defending one’s home from bad guys with 40 or 100 rounds? So how many instances of of dozens of bad guys busting into your bedroom to we have. Well not counting the police.
How about terrorism! There you go! But wait, what would a 40 round assault rifle do on a 911 plane or in the crowded streets of Boston?
So what does that leave assault rifles with oversize clips for?
Killing police in major shoot outs on the streets.
Killing our troops.
Killing great amounts of unarmed people in movie theaters, workplaces and restaurants.
Killing great amounts of children in schools.
