Hey! Pretty good for a lady pushing 60! Hear Here! As a long time Lauren Mayer fan I especially enjoy it when she breaks out of the mold as a replacement for piano humorist Mark Russell. Methinks she reach a larger audience by putting some of her lyrics to Country Western and Bluegrass music I can think of lots of lyrics to the tune of AMIE. Sarah, what you gonna do… Or a spin on Harper Valley PTA or Palin, Billo and me….
There is something to be said that her lyrics are often forced into the tunes she knows on piano, but it makes them easier to write which makes for more of them. And God knows we need more of this as this country falls further under the gun of Southern White Heritage.
Down here in Texas we are presently going through the standard Southern Heritage thing of requesting the Confederate battle flag on license plates. The stars and bars of course does not have anything to do with slavery, racism or even sedition, it’s only a benign symbol of Southern Heritage while honoring those who fought and died to keep slavery alive and Jim Crow in perpetuation. I will let yall know how it turns out though I have a pretty good idea.
