Breitbart: Duck Dynasty Patriarch Phil Robertson NOT a homophobic bigot

phil robertson homophobeFirst off, MSNBC recently FIRED (not suspended) Alec Baldwin and Martin Bashir for less.

This guy sure looks like a homophobe. And he is from Northern Louisiana and has a personal relationship with Jesus NRA Christ so little surprise there.

Having watched the show only a few times I came away with a liking to crazy Uncle Si who seems to only say nice things about others.  The central character, the son Willie Robertson who runs the business seemed only concerned with running the business. I did not see the patriarch Phil Robertson on the shows I watched.

The A&E channel, a private business, has suspended Phil Robertson from filming for an unspecified period of time. The right-wing bubble is overflowing with… Hmmm… HATE I guess. And Sarah Palin is leading the way.

Before I get to the quotes I  have to say that as happenstance would have it, I went from Google to Breitbart.com on this. Their response is included below which is what this article is really all about. I then traveled on to CNN, TIME, and a few other mainstream media sites to get a more grounded view.

To my horror I found the comment sections of those websites just as ugly as Breitbart.com. Not SOME of the most intense homophobic bigotry I have ever seen, but almost EXCLUSIVELY so in the comment sections. All that ugliness and hate on the back of Jesus Christ should make EVERYONE question what has happened to Christianity in this nation. Christianity has been replaced by Right-wing swill.

My personal favorite brain dead argument of theirs is that any ugly expression of bigotry is free speech while pointing it out is totalitarian fascist Marxism.  Breitbart takes that silliness a step further claiming that it’s okay to rant and rave about “sodomites” and “fags” as long as you include more bigotry directed at someone else, like say women.

“Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong… Sin becomes fine. Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.” Robertson then paraphrased Corinthians from the Bible: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right… It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.” Duck Dynasty Patriarch Phil Robertson

The response from Breitbart:

Nothing Robertson said even comes close to being anti-gay, but the entire premise of EW’s attack is nothing but Christian-bashing. This is the mainstream media attacking our very faith as bigoted and playing the homophobe card to try and intimidate us into shutting up about our beliefs.

Had the “Duck Dynasty” star singled out homosexuals, EW might be able to make its case for the absurd charge that he made “anti-gay comments.” But as you can read with your own eyes, Robertson did not single out gays, he appropriately listed heterosexual sexual sin, such as adultery and sleeping around.
