Kick! Making Politics Fun
A liberal dose of political humor Video, Politics, humor, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Bill Maher, SNL & commentary by Newscat & Rack Jite
I would never have thought that I'd write these words, but the far-sighted right wingers are onto something. Euro Socialism is a terrifying downhill ride! If we were to advance in that direction, we too would have to endure six or seven weeks of paid vacation - each and every
year like those poor suckers in France and Germany, think of the boredom! It goes without saying that we want no part of their cradle to grave medical care. If that doesn't have your knees knocking, remember what O'Reilly and others warn, we'd go bankrupt under such a system. Oops, Germany and France hove into view on this point as well. I mean really, who knew they held so many international poker chips? Well, you can just bet that they have devised diabolical ways for companies to make so much money, no doubt with some wacky methods of paying and involving their employees. We wouldn't want that kind of well-paid motivation, it encourages greed..or enables bill paying, and a bit of fun. (shudder) You can sleep safely, secure in the knowledge that despite thousands of Teabagger signs, there's no chance the America we know will ever fall prey to such a decline. Don't take my word for it, watch Rachel's interview with Tom Geoghegan, author of "Were You Born on the Wrong Continent."
The full interview isn't available yet, but segments are available on a wide range of topics from the serious to pop culture, as when the president admits he doesn't know who Snookie is, which I find to be a great relief. In this clip, President Obama discusses poll results, and why they should be viewed with a great deal of perspective. Obama prefers to place the focus on his administration's achievements and what he believes is right for America in the long view, rather than on short and expedient political remedies.
Do pollsters ever call you? I'm asking because they never, ever call me, and I'm simply dying to share with them! Comedian Lewis Black and Keith Olbermann bounce some inexplicable
survey results around from the latest PEW Poll. For instance, only in America could most people answering the survey paint the air blue, and state that they do not trust the bleeping government! On the other hand, they feel that it's an excellent place to work, and wonder if you have an "in"? Oddly, I think you'll be surprised to learn the years in which people feel they had the most trust in the government. That one defies explanation, other than perhaps drug experimentation. If so, we need it now more than ever!
No, this isn't a headline from a supermarket tabloid, though I wish that it were. Last weekend a preliminary Harris Poll of 2,230 Americans found that the majority of Republicans are crazy and potentially a danger to themselves or others. Okay, I speculated the latter part of that sentence - but base it upon excellent evidence. Obama's opponents have literally
demonized the president, with 24 percent of Republicans, and 14 percent of freelance kooks in agreement that Obama "may be the antiChrist."
Next, onward to demonizing an entire religion: a majority of Republicans believe that President Obama is a Muslim, while 45 percent agree with the so-called "Birthers" that the president was "not born in the United States." This is an arcane idea that even Bill O'Reilly of right wing Fox News has admitted lacks merit.
Further demonstrating the power of wingnut jingoism, 38 percent of Republicans, and 20 percent of Americans overall, agree that Obama is "doing many things Hitler did." Perhaps it's the cheering crowds?
Think what you will, the appeal of Palin comes to mind. The poll found that voters lacking a college education are much more likely to agree with more extreme myths and rumors about the
44th president.
Vice President Joe Biden is unpredictable if nothing else, but today's slip-up at the historic signing of the health care bill into law is understandable. This morning After Biden introduced Obama, he whispered, "This is a big f-in' deal". The AP reports that "Biden appeared to be
offering that perspective to Obama privately," but the remark was captured by cameras, and thanks to the miracle of video will probably be his most famous quotation.
Sarah Palin brings her bounty of political experience as a half term quitter as Governor of Alaska, blundering token female V.P. candidate/ SNL skit inspiration
for Tina Fey to bear in judging President Barack Obama's "lack of experience." Alas, "It's a bit over his head" according to the new voice of Fox News, and sometimes lunatic fringe Teabagger event speaker. Ed Schultz does a very brief point by point comparison of Sarah Palin's accomplishments to those of Barack Obama. Suitable for framing.
Lawrence O'Donnell talks with Michael Moore, Academy Award-winning film maker, who is much loved as well as hated for showing the seamy side of American politics, corporations, banking, and now our desperate need for health care, a goal seeming within reach but ruined by the deep pockets of insurance companies, lobbyists, and our elected representatives who can't resist either one. The Republican resistance to bi-partisan cooperation has been the final nail in the coffin of millions of Americans if the bill passes in it's present form. Moore's most recent film "Sicko" has brought him even closer than his initial investigation, as Americans email him daily telling him their stories of how the lack of health care, or abuse from insurance companies has ruined lives, families, and caused thousands of unnecessary deaths.
Keith Olbermann shares insight regarding Carly Fiorina's "demon sheep" ad. The Python bit isn't the frightening part, but the glowing red eyes, and man in a sheep costume may keep you awake! Possibly the worst campaign ad of all time however, it was lauded by Democrats.
