Joel Osteen and his wife are the biggest celebrities we have here in Houston. A few years back they bought the Summit which was our auditorium for the Houston Rockets. It sits 15,000 which Osteen fills twice each Sunday morning and is broadcast live on local television. Joel Osteen is the glass overflowing, slopping all over the floor getting your feet wet. His church is non denominational and unlike so many other Christian churches in Texas which dwell on intolerance and hate he sends a cheery and positive message. The most apolitical church in Texas, publicly. Continental Airlines does not want its employees talking about customer confrontations, especially when the customers are so very very white, rich, Republican and the most beloved Christians in Dumbutt, Texas. Being caught between a rock and a hard bitch, Ms Brown claims that not only did the shove in her chest cause her to lose her faith in God - seeing this Christian couple as the uppity assholes they are - but the stress of being pushed gave her hemorrhoids. Really. She is suing for 10% of Victoria Osteen's estate.
Wednesday, August 6. 2008Supreme Court Denies Appeal, Jose Medellin Executed in Texas
Jose Medellin was executed last night at 9:20pm after a 3 hour wait on an appeal from the Supreme Court. I would guess Antonin Scaila put down his guns long enough to answer the phone and scream KILL HIM [Scalia is the most outspoken good Christian on the Court). The big international issue is of course that Texas giving the rest of the world the finger puts all Americans in legal trouble overseas at risk. Especially regarding our troops being tried and executed by Iraq or Iran. We are going to really like that hey? Treat Americans like we treat whoever at Gitmo? Ha! The NEWS is not the parents of these girls spitting out their vengeful platitudes and the joy they are taking in having someone put to death. That is just people being less than they can be. Rather the NEWS should be when on rare occasions victims' families forgive, have mercy and decry the execution as unneeded revenge. Christianity has been so corrupted by the Republican Party it would no longer even be recognizable by its namesake. Rather than peace, love, mercy, forgiveness it has become a political hybrid of greed, intolerance, bigotry, gunplay, war and executions. Monday, August 4. 2008US 5th Court of Appeals rejects Ramos and Compean Appeal
Police lying and covering up the shooting - discharge of a weapon in the act of a felony - added 10 years to their 2 year sentences. A rather recent Republican mandatory sentencing law. You know, that Republican rule of law crap that came back to bite their own on the ass. Last week the US 5th Circuit Court rejected the agents appeal though every right-wing radio host has both men up there as American heroes along with Joe Horn, Dick Cheney and Jesus Christ. Both Texas Senators and every other Republican in Texas have been lobbying George W. Bush for a commutation of their sentences. I can think of no one in Texas more out of touch with Texas than Johnny Sutton! My God man... Not only is it okay in Texas for police (or anyone else for that matter - Pasadena Joe Horn) to shoot and kill unarmed people in the back, but they also become heroes for doing so. There are parades in the works! This is akin to the joy Texans take in executions. It's not exactly shooting unarmed people in the back, but rather, tying unarmed people to a cross shaped table and injecting them with poison. Same mentality. It is the stuff of heroes here in Texas. Monday, July 28. 2008DOJ publishes names of 10,000 "graduates" of Spokane diploma mill.
The "campus" pictured is similar to the lovely hallowed halls of many such fraudulent institutions.
I usually love irony. The brains behind the highly profitable Spokane,WA diploma mill, trading cash for college diplomas are high school drop-outs. Somewhere they'd obviously gained an unofficial degree in fraud, now they'll be going to a "graduate school" of sorts. Dixie Ellen Randock was sentenced in early July to three years in prison for conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud. Her husband will get his turn in court next week. Among the 10,000 names of people known to have selected the diploma mill as the fast track include people working in military, government and education fields, though the numbers may prove to be much higher. I suspect there will be at least 10,000 job openings since the names were released by the DOJ and listed on The Spokesman-Review's Web site DOJ publishes names of 10,000 "graduates" of Spokane diploma mill. Monday, July 28. 2008Trouble with Texas Taliban Bible Course in Public Schools
Before going any further it is important to understand that this is not only the majority of Texans, but the majority of teachers in Texas who do not accept evolution and wish to give Creationism (Intelligent Design) equal time in science classes. Teachers who will do whatever they can to proselytize their unique brand of Texas Christianity in their classrooms. They openly joke in the teacher's lounges about who pushed the most Jesus down their students throats on any given day. Which is A LOT because not only are most school boards owned and operated by the Texas Taliban, but so too the decision making at the state level. The Texas Taliban has a lock on the State Board of Education. Last year they passed a new law allowing them to teach The Bible in public schools. Unlike the Taliban in Afghanistan or the Ayatollahs in Iran, here in Texas they have to get around the US constitution to get the job done. In this case they play a game that many outside of Texas may not understand. They have written the law to make the Bible course elective (if 10 or more students in any school request it) and claim it will only be taught as an historic document. Trust me on this, there will be 10 sets of parents in every school in Texas requesting the course, and the whole point of it is to force as much Christian religion - with the accompanying political intolerance - they can into public schools. The present fight concerns the State Board of Education refusing to create standards and lesson plans for the course to ensure it stays not only within constitutional boundaries but does not end up as it was intended, getting NRA Jesus into the classroom no matter what a bunch of socialist God Hating liberal atheists have to say about it. The issue has been settled and won by the Texas Taliban with the help of Governor Perry and Attorney General Abbott who sided with the 10 to 5 vote of the State Board of Education that no real standards or lesson plans will apply. SBOE rejected biblical, legal expertise it needs The course is not scheduled until the Fall of 2009 so there is some breathing space to come up with a statewide lesson plan. Here is a lesson plan that is simple, strait forward and true. One hour a day every school day of the year. In the first grade teach them that everything was Eve's fault which is why men are in charge. In the second grade teach them the story of Abraham who heard a voice telling him to slit his son's throat. He was about to do so until at the last minute the same voice said, STOP, I was just kidding! Very important lesson! Absolute obedience to disembodied voices no matter what. This lesson was well learned by my one time neighbor Andrea Yates. In the third grade tell the story of Jesus who spent his life telling people to love and forgive one another. To be merciful and compassionate towards their neighbors (even those living ouside of Texas) and break the circle of vengeance to seek peace and love here on Earth. For which he was nailed to a dead tree. In the Fourth grade teach them about Emperor Constantine who made Christianity the state religion of the Roman Empire. Which soon collapsed resulting in 500 years of anarchy and violence in the name of Christianity which have come to be called the Dark Ages for good reason. In the Fifth grade teach them that as the Muslims helped pull the rest of us out of the Dark Ages, the Crusades began with 250 years of war and carnage where the streets literally flowed in ankle deep in blood. This happened in the Middle East where Christians forced their religion on the Muslims who lived there. In the Seventh grade go over what all the violence in Northern Ireland has been about for hundreds of years. In the Eight grade go over the 17th Century Salem Witch Trials. In the Ninth grade teach them that the Holocaust in Germany was directed at NON CHRISTIANS and that their was a Christian cross on every Nazi vehicle and uniform. In the Tenth grade teach them about Pentecostal preacher Jimmy Swaggart beating off in motel rooms and Baptist Preachers Jim and Tammy Bakker fraud and thievery. In the Eleventh grade cover religious leaders Jim Jones, David Koresh and FLDS leader Warren Jeffs. And in the Twelfth grade spend the year studying what religion has brought to Israel, Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia et al... An hour a day everyday for a year on each subject. In fact, I would be willing to give them an hour of forced denominational prayer (with guns) everyday for every hour they spend on the above subjects. One thing we do have to credit the McKains for is that this woman, which I assume is black, did come on their property, and they did not shoot her in the back with double ought buck from 10 feet away as Pasadena Joe Horn did, unamred black men in the back, 10 feet away, and got away with it. It goes without saying that a family openly strapping guns to their belts (along with a couple extra clips of ammo) and going to the Boise Zoo keeps lions, tigers and bears (oh no) from eating people. On the day in question no animals had eaten any humans. It is also a deterrent for all would be animal thieves and stroller hijackers. Again not one rattlesnake or elephant was stolen from the zoo on this day, and no strollers were stolen or children kidnapped. So the dozen or so gun packers did their job well as there were also no terrorist attacks or Mexicans taking jobs away from any white people. Of course as you can see from the video below the local Boise TV station could only claim that openly carrying weapons at the zoo is "unusual" rather than the more appropriate description that it is "f**king nuts". I must also add that it would seem to the casual reader that Idaho is a right-wing noodle state but in its defense please keep in mind that one of Idaho's United States Senators is open and tolerant of soliciting gay sex in public rest rooms. So at least give the people of Idaho that. After all, no place is all bad. Well... There is Pasadena, Texas.
Monday, July 21. 2008Texas Defies World Court Ruling and will Execute Mexicans
This case concerns the Mexican government who do not have capital punishment (they are bad Christians) wanting the United Nations to review 51 Mexican Nationals on Death Row because they were not allowed to talk to Mexican Consulate. It subsequently came down to the World Court asking a halt in the executions of five Mexicans for the same reason. President Bush went along with the World Court on the Jose Medellin case but the Supreme Court overrode President Bush. Mexico then went to the World Court again to ask for an emergency halt in the executions. Last week Governor Perry told the World Court to mind its own business.
We may find the hateful blood lust expressed by the fathers of the victims understandable, but to say that they are related in any way to Christianity is how does one say, caca de toro. This issue of thumbing our noses at the world regards executions is much like our views on torture, Abu Ghraib and Gitmo. What goes around comes around. I would guess the argument on behalf of the Texas Taliban is that without our tax dollars going to abstinence programs, Texas teens would be having even more sex than they already are.

At first glance one may think this is just about fear overriding common sense as college campuses have very high levels of drunkenness, drug use, suicide rates and adolescent stupidity. But there is no cause to worry. This has been all taken care of as the students are required to pass a concealed carry course. The course was taken and reported upon by Houston Chronicle reporter Janet Elliott who chronicled her experience in which the instructor told those in his class that they should not drink alcohol when carrying a gun, or wave it around in a threatening manner, and not to pull it out when angry at someone! So as that is the case, there is nothing to worry about. Learning to conceal and carry While the rest of the civilized world has been working to reduce violence and create hope through reform and social programs, we in America find the solution to be more and larger prisons, longer sentences, expanding executions, and evermore people buying and carrying bigger and better guns.

In the second day of testimony in the civil suit against Victoria Osteen the animated wife of super pastor Joel Osteen cried while explaining what a wonderful kind person she is, and denied assaulting the plaintiff Sharon Brown as both Ms Brown and the other flight attendant Maria Johnson testified she had. Joel Osteen took the stand to say he and his wife enjoy God's Favor. They also enjoy millions of dollars given to them by Joel's father who was the one who made the forture creating the church in the first place. That too is God's Favor I suppose. As is flying first class to a Vail Ski Vacation. Seems millionaries have a lock on God's Favor 
Two girls, 14 and 16 took a deadly shortcut through the woods on their way home one night in 1993. They walked into a gang initiation ritual and were raped and murdered. One killer was executed a year ago and two more received life sentences. Jose Medellin, a Mexican citizen was not given the opportunity to contact the Mexican Consulate before his trial. The World Court has asked for a delay in his execution to review the case. President George W. Bush concurs (publicly). 
More than a year ago now while following a van near the Mexican border in El Paso, Texas, border agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean pulled it over. The driver ran and the two agents unloaded their guns at the unarmed fleeing Hispanic male. He survived one bullet in the back. The agents had yet to search the van to know there was marijuana in it. Or did they know the man was a Mexican pot dealer. But they knew they were not suppose to be shooting unarmed people in the back so they gathered up their spent cartridges, lied and did their best to cover up the incident.
The Texas Taliban has embedded itself top to bottom in Texas politics and government. An arm of the Republican Party they are above all, Christians who rally against abortion, homosexuality and evolution while they push for more guns in more hands, more executions and always on the forefront of using old ways to force their intolerant and violent brand of Christianity upon all children in the Lone Gun State. 
No, it is not a rupture of free speech down here in Dumbutt, Texas where overt racist speech and writing had been defended for a generation under the auspices that Political Correctness is Liberal Nazism. No, the women arrested, Chynethia Gragg, who confronted the Sugarland couple in their pickup truck (you know it just had to be a pickup truck) outside their home got hot, called them racists and threatened them by saying she would get someone to take care of him later! 
You will have to excuse the joy I take in reporting on Idaho. It is the only place a Texan can point to and say, "Well, at least we aint as crazy as that!" 
This story is what being a Texan is all about. It transcends race, ethnicity, class, and even religion. We in Texas will shoot or execute who we want, when we want, where we want and anyone who doesnt like it has missed what we in Texas know is the basis in what Christ taught. Vengeance, shoot and Kill. 
There is much ado down here in Dumbutt to get college students, college professors, college janitors and people visiting colleges to pack heat. There is also the coming vote on getting rid of the "conceal" part of all this. Though the fun of waving guns around in bars and church and duels in the street will not be as easy to get done as moving thousands of guns into dorms and fraternity houses.
