JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI - A school district decided Wednesday not to host a high school prom after a lesbian student demanded she be able to attend with her girlfriend and wear a tuxedo. The Itawamba County school district’s policy requires prom dates be of the opposite sex. The American Civil Liberties Union of Mississippi had given the district until Wednesday to change that policy and allow Constance McMillen, 18, to escort her girlfriend, who is also a student, to the April dance. Instead, the school board met and issued a statement saying it wouldn’t host the event at Itawamba County Agricultural High School in Fulton, “due to the distractions to the educational process caused by recent events.”  Prom canceled rather than allowing lesbians to attend

Last year's Texas public school enrollment included 2.3 million Hispanic, 1.6 million white and 671,871 African- American children. 

Dumbutt, Texas - Over the past three days the Texas Board of Education has been discussing what we will teaching Texas Children by rewriting Texas history and social science textbooks. As expected the 7 Taliban members of the board are winning the battle. So much so that all but one of the Democratic members of the 15 member board walked out in protest. The issues are about replacing terms like SOCIAL JUSTICE with FREE MARKETS, with removing references to gays and unions and their struggles, and putting in names like Phyllis Schlafly, Jerry Falwell, The Heritage Foundation and so on. But mostly it is about Republican racism to remove whatever they can regarding Hispanics and African Americans in their historic struggles. It is clearly the White Republican members against the Black and Hispanic members. Though there are presently 7 white Christian creationist Fundamentalists on the Board, they usually get an extra 2 votes from the remaining white conservative Republicans to get their way. Their views on sexual reality can be summed up in this exchange:

The board also rejected experts who recommended a sociology standard for high school students to "differentiate between sex and gender as social constructs and determine how gender and socialization interact." The focus would shift to "transgender, transvestites and who knows what else," predicted Barbara Cargill, R-The Woodland, calling the proposed standard "totally inappropriate."
"Talking about your heterosexual experiences" is inappropriate, added Terri Leo, R-Spring.

Their views on race and culture can summed by this.

Republicans then got their way, including removing hiphop as an example of a "significant cultural movement" in American society for high school history. Country music survived. 

But the coup de grace, the face of these very white ugly Texas Christians is best understood in the following exchange. 

Mavis Knight, D-Dallas, was unable to attract any Republican support for her motion to teach students that government is not supposed to favor any religion. Knight's proposed amendment: "Examine the reasons the Founding Fathers protected religious freedom in America by barring government from protecting or disfavoring any particular religion over all others," was defeated.

Board member Cynthia Dunbar, R-Richmond, a Liberty College law professor, called Knight's proposal inaccurate. "We don't want our religious history to be drawn from a viewpoint that is not historically accurate," Dunbar said.

The question arises as to what can be done about this level of ignorance and intolerance? Which sadly they wish to further embed into our educational system. Walking down the street here talking to my fellow voters, the answer is obvious, NOTHING CAN BE DONE. Ignorance, Intolerance and of course the guns are what we in Dumbutt, Texas are most proud of. If you are out of state and have trouble grasping what that is all about, just listen to Sarah Palin, she gets it.

Glen Beck and his enchanted blackboard have revealed a nefarious scheme, one which elevates the looniest of conspiracy theorists to near philosophers by comparison. Rev. Jim Wallis who hopes to reason with Beck, explains how Beck has found the "code words" - namely, social justice and economic justice, which - if you follow along Beck's path, lead you straight into the arms of a communist, Marxist plot, by - you guessed it, President Barack Obama! In fact, he told church-goers to "Run if they hear those words!" Oddly, Rev. Wallis had quite a revealing experience when he physically removed those phrases from the Bible.

The stranger clad in black: A hungry self-proclaimed vampire/ space cowboy (how many youngsters haven't dreamed of that lifestyle one day). Mr. Space C'boy informed the egg and hotcake flipping staff that he was a vampire and wanted to eat people. Of course, those of you who are up on your vampire lore know that vampires crave blood, while zombies, though exhibiting little or no style, are the brain connoisseurs. The Mission staff may have had an inkling that he might be missing a few marbles by that point, but when he showed them the duct taped device on his arm after they asked him to leave, they firmly escorted him out.

Please don't get me going on neocons! Our two most popular these days are "Little Billy" Kristol whose daddy bought him the Neocon Bible, The Weekly Standard and Obama hater extraordinaire "Lipless" Charlie Krauthammer. Every time I see either one of them I want to put them in a headlock and give them a knuckle rubbie until they shut up.

The influence of the neocons got us into both our present wars and are caused the death of more Americans than 911 and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis (who don't count). These too yo-yos have replaced the old school of neocons who were in the Bush Administration making the calls: Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, Scooter Libby, John Bolton, Eliot Abrams and not to forget "Joey the Jowls" Liebermann. Within a day of seeing the inexplicable Glenn Beck interview, Josh Green of The Atlantic found several of Eric Massa's former ship mates who describe the aggressive sexual advances he made toward them. They'd spoken of it to one another, but true to the "Peter Principle" Massa had risen to third in command, they feared repercussions if they complained or turned him in, but they're talking now!

Perhaps Obama should stop smoking, but it's not for the reasons you think! Bill Maher has the right idea, and it might be just what Obama needs to do. There are few people with less patience to suffer fools than those who've just quit smoking. Who knows...if he'd stopped cold turkey at the beginning of the health care reform debate, we might well have a world class nationalized system by now, much like Costa Rica where the Limbaugh is threatening to move!

Bill Maher, host of Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO talks with Lawrence O'Donnell about the disturbing and bizarre saga of former congressman Eric Massa. Massa is revealing sexual kinks even Bill Maher hasn't heard of, making Maher wonder how many closeted gays inhabit the congressional steam room. From my observations they later take the floor and vote against gay issues. Here's to Massa, subject of the day known for "Massa massages," "snorkeling," and other blatant sexual acts while in the Navy and beyond.

Keith Olbermann wasn't due to appear tonight, as he is still watching over his seriously ill father. He found that he had to make an exception, he was chased down and stopped by an EMT Tech, with the sole message "You have to tell them , talk about a living will - tonight!" Sometimes called an advance directive, health care directive, or a physical directive, it assures that you make the decisions ahead of time, should you be in no condition one day. There IS no Sarah Palin "death panel," but there is one one assurance that you won't be one of the unfortunates that the passionate EMT described to Keith Olbermann.

What a conundrum. While I'd cheer to see the last of Limbaugh, it's not at all fair that he's helped ruin health care for us, but is wealthy enough to leave us in a bi-partisan mud puddle, and move to Costa Rica, which he's obviously investigated very well. Irony alert! Costa Rica has a Nationalized health care system, very much like the original plan presented by President Obama, and shot down by the likes of Limbaugh and pals.

REALITY CHECK - Conservatives like to say that the success of America - premised on their false interpretation of Tocqueville’s Democracy in America - was because of Christian values disseminated through local Protestant churches.

The fact of the matter is quite different, our success was due to stealing the most bountiful temperate untouched agricultural and mineral rich area in the world from the indigenous people living there, later stealing a third more of it from the Mexicans, building a good share of it on slave labor and planning it all from whiskey filled taverns. 

What is at stake here is the printing of 5 million text books in the social sciences that will not change until 2020. That much money means publishers will make deals with many other states on the Texas version of history.

More than half of Texas 1st Graders are Hispanic and that majority will soon apply to other grades. Hispanic students also have the highest dropout rate in Texas schools. English Only and removing the names of successful Hispanics in History is a purposeful act to make matters worse.

School board member nutcake Dentist Don McLelroy - who strongly believes that his ancestors here in Texas were hunting dinosaurs a few thousand years ago - lost his primary to less of a nutcake Republican. But this being Texas one never knows how that may turn out. What if this new person sees an image of Christ down the barrel of his Smith and Wesson? That is a Texas trait you know, constantly looking down the barrels of our guns to see if they are loaded...

The other loud creationist on the "School Board 7" is Cynthia Dunbar. She is moving on to yet to be announced greener Right-wing pastures (oops, I suppose that should read "darker" Right-wing pastures). She has given her seat over to her handpicked choice of another Republican.

Though this may change the dynamics of the board come next year with them being reduced to the School Board 6 (of fifteen), it does nothing for the vote coming in a few weeks. Both McLeroy and Dunbar have said they intend to get their Christian licks in before they are replaced.

What these Christians are mostly about is removing Hispanics, Blacks, Indians and Unions from our text books, Also replacing positive references to other religions, cultures and political systems with references to Phyllis Schlafly, the Heritage Foundation, Jerry Falwell and of course Jesus.

A couple of the most contentious changes this gang of nutcakes is trying to pass is removing Ralph Nader and Ross Perot and substitute them for Confederate War General Stonewall Jackson and to put passages written by Jefferson Davis on equal footing with Abraham Lincoln. This Cheney family just gets more disgusting as time passes. Starting wars, advocating torture, spying on everyone, no understanding of Rule of law or Due Process and now holding up a list of names claiming them enemies of America in league with terrorists. It's worse than McCarthyism. And then we have this lowlife boob of a guy Marc Thiessen adding to it by claiming the President is helping terrorists destroy American. This guy makes my skin crawl. I include in this article not only a video of Jon Stewart doing a good job of not reaching across the desk and throttling the second coming of Joe McCarthy, but also a clip of Larry McDonnell of MSNBC almost coming to blows with the disgusting little bastard. 

In my weaker moments I can understand the intolerance and bigotry endemic to Governor Bob McDonnell, the fine people of Virginia and Republicans everywhere, it is their pride in it that passes me by.

Of all the issues at play in this nation, this is the one that has no basis other than bigotry for the sake of bigotry, hate for the fun of hating and intolerance just for the visceral joy of it. It is the nature of the Beast. 

This is one woman's harrowing story, in her case an obsessed and disgruntled ex eventually gave himself away before harm could come to her, after he'd watched her every move through her cell phone. With the proliferation of cheap and easily installed devices, someone can not only listen, see texts, and monitor conversations, but watch your room, or the movie along with you in what you thought was the privacy of your home.

So - Karl Rove, or Turdblossom, as he was affectionately dubbed (or knighted) by Dubya, is pushing a book, and getting hot under the collar about questions regarding his allegedly gay father! Excuse me while I wish for a larger karmic wheel for him. If I didn't know Karl Rove, I'd agree wholeheartedly with his defense. Of course families should be left out of politics. In Morning Joe's "News You Can't Use" we have one untimely revelation, and yet one more "Don't" for you speeding multi-taskers. State Sen Roy Ashburn, CA, a conservative from Bakersfield who had voted against gay issues for 14 years, didn't so much step out of the closet, as crash out. Ashburn had little choice after fetching a DUI arrest upon leaving a gay nightclub. After announcing that yes, he is gay he said it shouldn't affect his job, a theory I hope he passes along to the others in his conservative party.

How many times has this happened to you? You're whizzing down the freeway on your way to a hot date, and remember that you'd neglected to prune that all important bikini area, well that's exactly what happened to Megan Barnes of Florida. Fortunately, her EX was in the passenger seat, and happy to steer from his position. Unfortunately, neither was watching the road.
