Make no mistake about it, Republicans have been trying to destroy public education since its inception. They want GOVERNMENT EDUCATION replaced by private schools dependent primarily upon profit margins rather than outcome and religious dogma rather than thinking. Thinking does not get them votes.
They caused the worst recession in American history and turned the blame on teachers for God sake. They have managed to use the "debt crisis" they caused to do what they have been trying to do for generations. Destroy the New Deal (Social Security, and unemployment compensation) and LBJ’s New Frontier (Medicare and Medicaid).
They know well how to use fear and anger to reek their havoc upon the thin of thought. They are on a rampage to destroy the EPA, OSHA, UNIONS, SEC, FCC, FDA, IRS and of course education which is what makes kids smart enough to understand what I am typing here. They are doing all they can to hurt education, reducing funding of Headstart and all pre school programs, trying to raise rates on educational debt, raising tuition’s, laying off teachers, increasing class size, closing schools, demonizing teachers – and as they do down here in Dumbutt, Texas – rewrite biology, history and social study textbooks to reflect their Evangelical Christian Free Market gun toting Jesus. It is like trying to catch more fish by taking away the nets, the boat and the crew. But Republicans are not concerned with any long range issues, it’s the next quarter profit of their portfolios that matter.
The Republican War on Teachers began a month ago in Wisconsin which coincides with last months’ Republican War on Mothers, War on Children, War on the Poor, War on the Unemployed, War on Unions and of course War on Muslims, Mexicans and African Americans.
