"Fear Governments That Ban Art." This true sentiment is written on one of the signs held by picketers outside of the Maine State Department of Labor. Other protesters have found remarkably creative ways to ‘resurrect’ the controversial mural that was ordered to be taken down by Governor LePage. The new Gov. claimed that the mural was biased in favor of labor, and not consistent with his ‘pro-business’ agenda.

While LePage lounges in sunny Jamaica, a chilling surprise awaits him in the form of a letter. The US Labor Department is demanding that LePage give back the federal money originally donated to pay for the mural. About $38,000 of the $60,000 spent on the mural came from the state’s federal unemployment trust fund. It remains to be seen whether newly elected Governor Page still feels strongly about his anti-mural statement now that there is a price tag on it.
