It’s official, Mount Vernon, while lacking the cache’ of – say New York City, is awarding the key to the city to a home town celebrity! Can you feel the electricity in the air? Don’t feel badly, neither can most living in Western Washington state. The "celebrity" is none other than Glenn Beck.

I warn you Mount Vernon, this is grounds for forced secession in this traditionally blue state. To give you some insight, Mount Vernon and it’s surrounding area is home to approximately 26,000 souls. This is an indication of how much time Beck has on his hands, he’s scheduled to be present Sept. 26th for the great honor, give a short talk, maybe lead in a good cleansing cry, warn of the impending socialist take-over, and maybe pick up a local sponsor or two…who knows!

Not everyone in Mount Vernon is busting their buttons with pride. Kudos to protestors from the Skagit County Young Democrats who walked outside of city hall on Tuesday with protest signs, one reading "Change the Locks!" The young Democrats take exception with this award going to someone who called President Barack Obama a "racist," and rightly called it totally inappropriate, and so it is!

One can’t help but wonder just who – or what has run against Mayor Norris, for this to be his sixth year in office. His reasoning for this bestowal of honor for the first time ever, does nothing to clear the matter up. Norris said he "remembers the tyke carrying a sandwich board saying ‘Vote for Norris for county
commissioner’ up and down Mount Vernon’s First Street." I ask you, is that not something every "tyke" does in his formative years? Wait, twelve years old is a "tyke"? Beck must have been very short for his age, that plucky tyke. It’s
enough to bring tears to yer eyes. Norris continued, saying he and Beck’s parents were friends, but this is not, most definitely not – political payback for campaigning all those decades ago! I believe it’s little known that Beck hailed from Western WA. This area vies for the title of most ailments related to a dreary climate in the nation, even so – it’s a better
claim to fame than Glenn Beck was here!
