Good-Time ‘Tubthumping’ Chumbawamba Celebrate Margaret Thatcher’s Death In Song

Chumbawama's Tubthumping Farewell and good riddence to Maggie Thatcher in song

Margaret Thatcher’s demise is cause for mixed feelings in the world tonight. While many laud her service, there is also a rather large ‘Ding Dong The Witch is Dead’ party in progress, and Chumbawamba, who are from the latter group have provided an excellent sound track for the celebration.
Thatcher privatized previously socialist government services, broke unions and made no friends in Ireland – most notably with the starvation deaths of Bobby Sands and the other 9 hunger strikers. And then there was Apartheid! Thatcher’s right-wing alliance with Ronald Reagan  will not soon be forgotten.  Called political ‘soul-mates,’ their combined policies led to many avoidable deaths during the tragic years in South Africa.

Through it all she remained the inflexible, ‘ Iron Lady.’  Those who knew her said she thrived on controversy. Perhaps she would be gratified to know that she is capable of triggering such strong feelings even now.  Sports stadiums are filled with revelers, and impromptu parties are springing up on streets and in clubs.   Chumbawamba, the band who made the up-beat song ‘Tubthumping’ imortal was apparently very ready for Maggie’s exit. Here is their just-released collection of (also happy) tunes to commemorate the event.

” In Memoriam Margaret Thatcher.”
