Health care fail: We tried everything but one thing, single payer

Health care fail: We tried everything but one thing

Health care fail: We tried everything but one thing

Sure this political cartoon says much, but what sets it off with a pit of “profound” is the tiny pill jar with an even smaller “single payer” under the Rx. Eyes must linger for a time searching for the meaning.

Single payer is not only the obvious answer, but the economic, ethical, moral and Christian answer as well. And where do we see it discussed? Does it pop up on your phone? Does net surfing show it? How about on TV or the radio or at the bar with Bubba and Okra? Hillary ever mention it? No, the only time it is discussed is usually when Bernie Sanders shows up somewhere or other. Even Democrats on talk shows seldom mention it. It is like it isn’t there.

Whenever I find myself forced into political discussions with Trumpers I stay away from guns, religion and what grade they left school. Instead, knowing that a majority of Americans want a single payer system, or medicare for all, I figure I can get somewhere and find at least one area of agreement.

“Single Payer? Never heard of that. What the Hell is that?”

“Simply put it is Medicare for everyone, a payroll deduction which every employee pays to the government who then transfers it to non profit insurance companies to cover everyone at far less cost and better outcomes. Single payer systems generate a far greater degree of supplemental plans which the insurance companies make up for with profits.”

“More socialism!”

“Well most of the world and the entire industrialized world works from a single payer system of one sort or another with the people who live under such systems liking it far more than Americans like what we have.”

“Socialists!”

“Sigh.”

“And they take everyone’s guns away!”

“How far did you get in school again?”
