John Oliver reports that Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was successful in demanding that Angela Merkel turn a ‘disrespectful’ German comedian over to his country to stand trial. Erdogan embodies the thin-skinned nature of Donald Trump – paired with the ability to imprison anyone who lampoons his astonishing tongue-blunders. He has also punished those who took note of his Gollum-like appearance. So far the count of those who are imprisoned and/or have been tried is at 2,000 and he only took office in 2014. Turkey will never be the Mecca of political humor.
You must see how accomplished Erdogan is. In one fell swoop, he insulted the Jews and the Nazis. The stumbling orator also insulted all of womankind – at an international convention for women! He is most famous for smoothing the blunder over with a remark about his mother’s feet, that would make a career foot fetishist cringe! And, you’re not supposed to laugh.
I’ll just say that the film ends when Erdogan receives his just rewards..This is one I’m binge-watching!
