Tonight on Jimmy Kimmel, Donald Trump has been sending cease-and-desist letters to companies selling counterfeit Trump merchandise. Apparently those hats are red gold for enterprising entrepreneurs. Because copyright infringement is a serious issue, Kimmel’s crew wanted to discuss it with some experts. When I heard the word expert – I assumed Jimmy meant they asked a copyright attorneys; but the experts Jimmy consulted were much more revealing!
Kimmel’s people asked the individuals on Hollywood Boulevard who make their living dressing up as unsanctioned characters from TV and movies to give them their opinion on this issue. Asked if it’s wrong to steal the creation of someone else, and make money from it, a parade of superheroes and even a soggy Spongebob Squarepants revealed very strong opinions about such piracy! Their views are strong – but perhaps a bit myopic?
