Grover Norquist and Roger Ailes are the most powerful men in conservative politics. [I used to include Rush Limbaugh but I am not so sure of that anymore.]
For a few decades Norquist has forced most every Republican (out of fear of him) to sign a pledge OVER AND ABOVE the US Constitution to never raise taxes. But also his decades long weekly Wednesday breakfast meetings in Washington DC with the rest of the conservative power structure passing through – like the Koch Brothers – to plan their hijacking of ALL THE MONEY.
You know if we were to have a single payer health plan – with a payroll tax of about 5% going to private non profit insurers – and raise taxes on the top 5% about 5%, our debt and deficit would be eliminated in 5 years.
And that is the 5 5 5 5 plan! That is an extra 5 over 9 9 9!
The majority of Americans are for single payer and taxing the wealthy a little more. But it won’t happen because of GROVER NORQUIST.
