I just cannot get excited about all this spying and privacy crap. 20 years ago I put up a hard lonely fight for privacy on the internet only to be constantly bombarded with the cry from the Right… SHUT UP! WE KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE! WE HAVE THE ADDRESS OF YOUR CHILDREN’S SCHOOL. YOUR PHONE NUMBER IS. DROVE BY YOUR HOUSE TODAY YOUR LICENSE PLATE IS! WANTED MECHANIC JOB IN DUMBUTT $500 CALL.
I fought and fought and and lost every battle, but it wasn’t until Facebook appeared that I finally threw in the towel once and for all. A billion people volunteering their real names, addresses, schools, phones, history and children. To chop up a little Mencken, this is what the people want and the deserve to get it good and hard. NO SYMPATHY.
There is only one way to keep your privacy in the world today and tomorrow. Never go online and never use a cell phone. And you know, I have a few friends who are there, and they seem to get out more than the rest of us, are more socialized and seem to have more fun and actual do things. For them it is not even a conscious act to hold on to their privacy, it’s just that they have better things to do than attach a computer to heir heads and hands. I do hope they don’t start sending letter bombs around though…
