Larry Wilmore 1970 parenting

larry wilmore 1970 parentingWhen I was a kid, each Summer day I would get up have a bowl of Cheerios and go. Usually on my bike, often having lunch at friends, and not show up back home until 6pm which was dinner time. I never got on school bus in my life. After school I would either stay on the playground, go to a park, to a friends house or play in the street. I would go out after dinner in the dark to visit friends or play kick the can and walk home in the dark.

What is going on here in America now?  We can’t even let our kids walk a few blocks to school anymore. They need PLAY DATES to go out at all. So what has changed? Are there more child molesters now? I looked that up and no… Is it the guns? I looked that up and yes…

I just called a few old friends from the school days last weekend, I asked if any of them had ever seen a hand gun before they left home. Or even heard about anyone having one. Nope. In fact other than those three years in the Army I never saw a handgun until I moved to Texas when I was 34. Never even heard of an assault rifle and I grew up with hunting friends and family.

One of the big disconnects I have with America is how here we censor sex out of our TV and moves, while Europeans leave the sex alone and censor guns and violence from their TV and movies. Less guns and more sex seems to makes life both freer and safer for children.
