Chapo thinking he may soon be dead sends the word to Hollywood he wants an interview so he can be correctly immortalized in the next version of Scarface. Sean Penn heeds the call giving his word he won’t squeal. Partly because Sean Penn he is a man of his word and partly because Chapo has a long reach.
So why is the right-wing blogosphere going bonkers to make this go viral? After all, journalists do this all the time, it is what they do, it is about a free press with many journalists going to jail rather than squeal on their sources or locations.
There are two things at play here, first is how Republicans feel about journalists and the media in general, which we can see most everyday at the Trump rallies. They hate the messengers more than the messages. And secondly, Sean Penn is America’s Bono, an international liberal Do-Gooder running hither and yon doing good things without a gun.
