Speaking of states splitting up, Texas can legally be split up into 5 pieces, but two will do. Just tear a little off the bottom – what we call The Valley – and the rest of the Texas song remains the same. Not a bad idea if Texas wants to stay dark red until Hell freezes over. Though Texas as it stands today has little to worry about no matter the punditry. We had good Democratic candidates for both Governor and Lt Governor last year and they both lost by more than 20 points to the Tea Party Christian Evangelical White-wing. And Ted Cruz won a statewide vote for governor in a landslide two years before. Texas has a very long way to go to turn even a little pit purple.
What about North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska? Are there any gay people even living in those states? Are there any people at all living in those states. Name one.
The larger issue Larry Wilmore skirts around is about gay rights and black rights being the same thing. It’s a pretty strong NO as gay people can choose to pass (well except for Richard Simmons) and blacks can’t and that’s that. But I have taken notice that Blacks are more against gay marriage than whites are. About 10 points or so.
So what is it that is so powerful it can turn African Americans – who fought and suffered and died for their civil rights – to deny the same for gays and lesbians?
Hint – It is the same thing that has the power to get people to strap on TNT and go to the market, to behead people on camera, to behead people in public, to start them on fire, to scream at brown children to GO HOME, to carry assault rifles into restaurants and to vote for the likes of Louie Gohmert, Michele Bachmann and Ted Cruz.
