Last Week Tonight, John Oliver April Fools’ Day Pledge

Last Week Tonight, John Oliver April Fools' Day, No Prank Pledge

April Fool’s Day is gawd-awful, please stand with John Oliver, take the Last Week Tonight No Prank Pledge – and bring back the true meaning of April first!  John helps us to see the folly of an annual prank day, saying: “April Fools’ Day is to comedy as to St. Patrick’s Day is to Irish Culture; it is a mockery of the very concept that usually ends in a fistfight.”

John rightly reasons that anyone who enjoys the betrayal of trust and ensuing sadness of a cruel prank is a sociopath. John then plays a cruel hoax on us, but only to demonstrate how unfunny and sad many pranks are. Sociopaths in the audience should enjoy it immensely.  “We don’t need a special holiday on which to disappoint our loved ones.” Reason John. ” We do that on every other holiday by accident.” You will see a photo of John with the world’s ugliest Christmas sweater. Oliver brings the point home, saying: “When are you gonna yell Christmas Fools and give me my real present?”  The sweater truly is – an abomination.

John uses many other clever devices to help us see what a hideous ‘holiday’ we’ve perpetuated, then offers us all a chance to swear it off with the hilarious NO PRANK PLEDGE.

Thanks to John, we can now restore April 1st to the original meaning. “It is the day we look at our calendars and think ‘Oh poop, I’ve really got to start doing my taxes!'”

Before you panic, the staff at Procrastination Central sez: ‘What, Me Worry? The IRS gives you extensions!’
Last Week Tonight returns on Sunday, April 5.
