Apparently most people in Thailand have no idea who Adolph Hitler was. The country is in the throes of Hitler mania because history books simply do not cover Hitler, Nazi Germany or the Holocaust. To them, Hitler is only a comical figure with an iconic mustache, tall boots and bizarre arm gestures. But – come on Thailand, aren’t you even curious? Look him up before you plaster him on murals with superheroes. He shouts at you from herbal laxative packages, from chicken franchises, and on student artwork. He parades on T-shirts, and even boy bands dress like him! John Oliver wonders how girls can decide on a favorite when they’re ALL the ‘bad boy.’
.If Thailand need a charismatic figure with a mustache to lend comedy to various enterprises, comedian Rip Taylor has offered his services. He is more than willing to substitute for Hitler on herbal laxatives, murals, t-shirts and chicken. Think about it Thailand. You can trade in your German madman for our confetti-strewing comedian!
Perhaps this is a good time to mention that right now, various U.S. school districts are changing their own textbooks, with the help of people with right-wing Christian sensibilities. You can create your own historical reality, but sooner or later you’re going to be the butt of a joke, performed on a foreign comedy show.
