Maureen Dowd's Raging Paranoia or Debbie Downer Does Pot

As a veteran New York Times reporter, of course Maureen Dowd went to Colorado the better to cover the state’s legalized pot scene with her own eyes. Because veteran reporter, and stickler for details (I presume) Dowd didn’t obtain directions for the marijuana candy she purchased, she experienced the mother of bad trips…But we’ll return to her long strange night shortly.

After taking a bite of the marijuana candy bar and feeling nothing immediately, she took another bite…It looks harmless, who knows how many little nibbles she ingested. The candy bar was supposed to be broken into 16 pieces…And, it hits between 45 minutes to an hour after ingestion, and it hits hard, even when you follow the directions!

Dowd describes a lonely and frightening night, on a trip that was almost without end. Could she have selected something stronger from the pot goodie store? It’s doubtful. In other words, Dowd was trippin balls! She wasn’t lovin’ it either!.
In her very negative article about the experience, Dowd describes how after an hour, she lay curled up in a hallucinatory state for the next 8 hours.  “I was panting and paranoid, sure that when the room service waiter knocked and I didn’t answer, he’d call the police and have me arrested for being unable to handle my candy.”  She described straining to remember who she was, and becoming convinced she had died and no one had told her.

As you can imagine, Dowd’s rather lengthy article is full of dark warnings…Nothing good can come of this! Perhaps if you did your research Ms Dowd, you’d know better what to take, and how to prepare for take off!

By the way, there is a much more gentle buzz on the way. You can truly ‘wake and bake’ to your coffee pot, thanks to a Longview, WA man. Adam Stites of Longview, Wash. has come up with a line of cold-brewed coffee-infused drinks he cleverly calls “Legal” beverages. And there’s no doubt about its intended effects.

“The coffee drinks give you an uplifting head high. We call it the wake and bake drink,” he says. Stites says the cold brewed cannabis beverage could be a first, and he’s experimented for some time to come up with the right combination.
Each bottle features about 20 mg of THC, which Stites says is intended to be enough to give consumers a pleasant effect without getting them completely blasted.

“We want the experience to be more similar to that if you had a nice IPA or glass of wine. We don’t want to pack so much THC into every one of our drinks that it’s unpleasant, especially for people that are just getting into marijuana,” he says.
The coffee-infused drinks will come in plain and with cream and sugar. “Legal” will also feature three juice-based sparkling sodas: Rainier Cherry, Lemon Ginger and Pomegranate. Each is made with fresh juices and a different strain of cannabis for differing effects.

Perhaps Maureen Dowd might want to try a bottle…But just one!
