It would appear that the only living person in America who doesn’t know what Sturgis is about is Republican hopeful John McCain. The photo at the left, is repeated throughout the long festival by Bikers and Bikerettes sans clothes, one would think he would catch on.

In a delusional moment, he looked out over the sea of bikers who make the pilgrimage each year (certainly not drawn by him), and proclaimed – not for the only time, that he enjoyed the company of the tens of thousands more than that of the 200,000 Germans who turned out to see Obama last month. Why Yesssss….looking around, nude, high, and drunk, these must be McCain’s people. Then again, they also could be the largest group of people guaranteed to gather this summer. It should be noted, Sturgis, S.Dakota is a biker gathering celebrating it’s 88th year. If anyone was a draw, it was Kid Rock. The fact remains that the enormous crowd in Berlin was there to see Obama – only! While McCain has traveled extensively, he continues to make snide swipes at Obama for drawing crowds wherever he goes. McCandidate implied the many thousands were gathered at the Cow Chip camp grounds as a rally for him.

Proclaiming the roar of engines at the huge party as "the sound of freedom" he sniped a bit more about his opponent, then got very carried away and out of his depth. McCain, often viewed as a misogynist, volunteered his fully covered wife for the traditional "beauty pageant" at the rally…..something he obviously pictured with an evening gown competition. In fact, it’s known as a wildly popular and infamously debauched "contest" featuring topless (and often bottomless) women performing various feats of skill and daring do not traditionally found at the Miss America runway.“I encouraged Cindy to compete,” McCain said to cheers. “I told her with a little luck she could be the only woman ever to serve as first lady and Miss Buffalo Chips….he said, reading from his notes.
