The cost of the system is about $60 million a year and covers about 10% of us who are at around poverty level. It did go up to $78 billion with the Recession but will go back down to earlier levels. Most of whom are either children too young to work or the elderly too old to work. It is about 1% of the federal budget and about .4% of GDP. About 1% of the people in the system are indicted for fraud. Which is half the amount of congressman indicted for something or other.
