It is not only intolerance but a clear and present bigotry, and even more sadly, for nothing other than the joy of being a bigot. Granting a couple in love the happiness to commit their relationship to marriage – just like anyone else – is what Christianity SHOULD be about. But here in America it has been corrupted beyond recognition. American Christianity is now mostly about bigotry and exclusion driven by the most intolerant factions of the Republican Party. Christ has been replaced by politics. The common good once inherent in Christianity has been lost to the politics of conservative self interest; whether it be ones’ wallet, personal ticket to everlasting bliss, or taking a crap on the other tribes.
As was the case in ending slavery, child labor, giving women the vote, apartheid and so on has come from years of work and law by activist courts. Seldom do these issues of human equality come from what is so erroneously called the intelligent voting public.
This issue of GIVING rights to others rather than denying them, scrapes not a nanonit of skin from anyone’s nose. It is bigotry just for the sake of bigotry. A majority of hillbillies in 30 states should be ashamed of themselves.
