Paris Climate Change Summit, A Closer Look – Late Night with Seth Meyers

Paris Climate Change Summit, A Closer Look - Late Night with Seth Meyers

The good news is that two hundred countries including China reached an historic climate change agreement in Paris this weekend. Two hundred disparate countries agreed to take action on a voluntary basis. Meanwhile, here in the U.S. Congress is unlikely to mandate that same action, if requested.  Here I direct your gaze to Jim Inhofe and his famous snowball, which he claims is a sign that there is no global warming.  Lucky for Inhofe, he’s not giving that same demonstration this December. While Obama was in Paris, New Yorkers – with no snow to shovel as tradition dictates, donned bikinis and went swimming in the ocean.  In Washington D.C. temperatures were appropriate for baseball and picnics, even Inhofe’s snowball melted.

If the media gave short shrift to the climate summit itself, they weighed in on President Obama’s participation. According to Fox, Obama was just hanging out with the “cool kids” – (a term Fox used to describe world leaders) and blithely ignoring terrorism.
Sean Hannity spoke for many uninformed snivelers when he raised his beak and demanded; “What’s the bigger threat the weather or ISIS?”
According to a passel of prestigious admirals and many-starred generals, the biggest threat is   – “Climate Change.”
