Religious fundamentalism and intolerance works, David Brooks

I have recently come to the conclusion that Ayn Randian Republican ideology causes far more misery for far more people than the intolerance and bigotry of Evangelical Christianity. It’s not only bowing down to the Queen of Selfishness and Greed, but the same old style country club Republicans who aare smart enough to not screech about the Virtue of Selfishness PUBLICLY. The Koch Brothers founded and fund the Libertarian/Randian CATO Institute, quietly. Who knew? The Looneytarians.

I recently mentioned David Brooks as one of those who is far more dangerous than Glenn Beck or Michelle Bachmann. In his column from yesterday Creed or Chaos he proves the point.

Brooks uses the new hit play "The Book of Mormon" from the South Park team of Matt Stone and Trey Parker to make his point that people using rational well meaning theology fail. Religion needs fundamentalist (absolute truth), evangelical (forcing it down the throats of others), intolerant (bigotry) dogma (thoughtless )to have any meaningful affect on people.

Brooks serves the age old reality of the very concept and invention of religion. Smart people making it up and pretending to believe it to keep stupid people in line and on their knees. It has worked well now for at least 10,000 years. And as Brooks suggests, it will last another 10,000 years as long as we keep it intolerant, dogmatic, nasty and silly.
