Whatever intelligence or charisma propelled The Rev. Billy Graham did not translate into the following generation. One can only hope that the elder Graham’s open door to, and influence with those in power isn’t automatically granted to his heir.
Lest you think I judge harshly, wait until you hear Graham judge harshly – he is harsh, I tell you! The life-long Republican’s naive belief in Donald Trump’s suitability as president is breath takingly dismaying; but the interview takes on an extremely disturbing element as Graham reveals that he knows who is sincerely a Christian and who is not, despite their profession of faith and all appearances! What happened to ‘Judge not’, lest ye be speaking this way all day?
Please note: simply because I’ve galloped away on this hobby horse, does not mean that one’s religion should have a thing to do with their suitability for public office in this country. You see how insidious this is?
It helps to get into office, and into heaven if you are a Republican, I gather. You be the judge, ‘Reverend’ Graham shouldn’t be the only one passing judgment on his fellow man.
Hang on though, this does get to be fun. When brought to task by Lawrence O’Donnell, Graham is incapable of response. He appears like nothing as much as a pre-programmed automaton, senselessly spouting churchy conversion-speak while smoke curls from his fried transistors. I give it a 10!
