SNL: LL Cool J and Brad Paisley erase racism in America! Eracism!

ll cool j and brad paisleyWhy would anyone in their right mind name themselves L L COOL J?  Somethings are just beyond me. How about Elvis or John, or Paul or even Ringo?  I heard we have a recent name change from Snoopy Snoop Dog to Snoopy Snoop Lion! Why would parents do that to their children?

This reminds me. I just sent a letter off to my local newspaper with tongue in cheek asking that we rename the entrance way to my community from CONFEDERATE WAY to Barack Obama Blvd.  I tried the idea out on my new neighbor across the street. A recently retired guy from Colorado. He responded with PLEASE NO, then sat on the ground and took off his shoes and socks to reveal the confederate battle flag painted on all 10 of his toes. Really!  I had to laugh like hell… Had to explain to him that the letter was tongue in cheek which had about as much chance of getting anywhere as I have of finding Jezus hiding under all the guns and bigotry around here.

I have been exposed to both these forms of music by my children over the years. Both venues – Rap and Country Pop – have one thing in common. All the songs from each venue sound the same. The voice, the music, the lyrics, the rhythm, all basically the same damn song. What’s with that?  Sure I am a child of the Sixties music. It may be old but it was all different. There  was rock, and blues, And bluegrass, and country, and folk, and folk rock and ballads, and soul, and motown, and bubblegum. A playlist could go from Blowing in the wind, to Piece of my Heart, to Satisfaction, to Like a Rolling Stone, to Casey Jones, to Yummy Yummy Yummy I got Love in my Tummy, to Iron Man, to Okie from Muskogee, to I am Woman.  What’s with this thing about making it all sound the same?
