The problem of course is that the money buys more than enough conservative propaganda to get ignorant, angry white Americans to vote against their own self interest.
The combination of the destruction of the media "Fairness Doctrine" in 1987 and the Supreme Court decision, Citizens United to put no limits on money given to politicians means it will only get worse. My guess is like what is happening in the Middle East, this will go on until the 90% of Americans on the bottom start getting hungry as food prices rise. Not many starving people vote Republican.
