Stephen Colbert, Is Ted Cruz on a bigger ego trip than Rand Paul?

rand and cruzHumble pie… So what was it Ted Cruz is arguing and losing 9 to 0 in this picture of himself before the Supreme Court? Denying expanded health care for poor children in Texas. Which at the time came in about 49th – thank the Lord for Mississippi – in health care and poverty rates for children. But hey, that’s what it means to be a libertarian and a Texan. After all guns will solve everything.  This morning even Joe Scarborough called Ted Cruz a “train wreck” and part of “the Taliban.”

So we have Ted Cruz, still not a year into his Senate job this week picking a fight with Senator Tom Coburn who has a 96% conservative rating. Cruz says Coburn is advocating Obamacare by not joining himself, Mike Lee and Rand Paul in shutting down the government come October. Doing what they Republican House did in 1995, what many call their biggest mistake since Goldwater, resulting in Bill Clinton easily re elected.

And of course in the same news cycle we have Republican Rand Paul picking a BACON BACON FAT MAN BACON fight with popular Republican Chris Christie. In that fight we hear Rand Paul’s narcissism and ego surpassing that of even Anthony Weiner.  He tells Christie not to pick a fight with him, for he is the hope and future of the Republican Party.

At first glance one could say these Senators, three stooges of the Tea Party, are making the GOP look like a party of clowns to not only independent swing voters, but Republican moderates as well. Even the big money boys don’t like them.

We can also say that Cruz and Paul running for president in 2016 is the best thing the Democrats could hope for.  Turn the GOP primaries into an even sillier circus than 2012. But as they posture, as their crazy Right-wing ideologies become more well known, and their inflated egos dominate the discussions, it makes the Conservative wing of the GOP seem like reasonable people and more easily elected. And that is the rub.
