Stephen Colbert – Trump is My Old Character With Ten Billion Dollars

Stephen Colbert - Trump is My old Character With Ten Billion Dollars Stephen Colbert, appeared on Face the Nation this morning to discuss the presidential election, and talk about how Donald Trump reminds him of himself, as the “over-the-top conservative character”  he used to play. Colbert told host John Dickerson, “He’s my old character with ten billion dollars. You know, he’s completely playing on an emotional level, and so beautifully. I mean, that’s one of the reasons why I just can’t do that old character anymore, because he’s doing it better than I ever could because he’s willing to drink his own Kool-Aid.”

Colbert called Trump a “Frankenstein of the idea that facts don’t matter and only money does,” while admitting he finds something appealing about how Trump is able to do well, despite not being the choice of the Republican establishment.

If you have been wondering why Stephen gave up the Colbert Report, he said he was tired of having to take sides all the time. Colbert said he got a sense ‘that the American people are no longer interested in divisiveness, and aping that – even for the purposes of a comedy show, wasn’t gonna fly that much longer.’ Was Colbert a bit premature in quitting for that reason? He gave up the show just before ‘Campaign Donald’ took off, and we’ve seen just how many Americans would elect the character Stephen feels is over-the-top. Failing that, they’ll settle for The Donald!
