This video is a treasure chest of Tea Party images that present us with not only the racism and intolerance inherent within it, but the anger and ignorance that drives it.
One of the reasons our great political divide keeps growing is that Republicans, Tea Party or not, do not see anything wrong with this picture of little American girls. It is so cute, patriotic and so very well exemplifies American Exceptionalism.
Other than our execution chambers, I can think of no better representation of our American celebration of violence than this picture. And a dollar to a donut that the person taking it feigns horror when presented with a picture or video of bad Africans giving the same weapons to bad African children.
Here in Texas last week we had a big BRING YOUR ASSAULT RIFLE to the Alamo rally. It was a Tea Party / NRA political rally for those Republicans running for Lt Governor. The stated theme of the gun rally was “To get Americans used to seeing other Americans carrying assault rifles in public places.” They wish us all to see the above picture as THE NEW NORMAL.
And please, I suffered a bit of combat back when and I know what a military style assault rifle is and what it isn’t. So save your breath on that absurd argument.
BTW for those who are not up on assault rifles, all branches of the military advise against full automatic, that in semi automatic mode the weapon is far more accurate with a much better kill rate than full auto. Though I suppose that could be argued when entering a class room full of unarmed little children. Which is about the only thing it’s for outside the military.
