All across America we have this lack of justice and fairness in our grand jury system of prosecutors and police in bed together. So when police are brought before the grand jury the prosecutors switch roles to become advocates for the police rather than “the people” who are usually a different color.
Here in Texas and many other states, mostly Southern I would presume, we elect our county judges. The election cycle for judges brings to local TV political ads in which we see white men and women in robes with the blaring pronouncements of REPUBLICAN! TEXAS CONSERVATIVE VALUES! CHRISTIAN FAMILY! All trying to outdo one another on who has and will execute more people for less reason that the other Republicans they are running against. More executions has been the big political sell for judges and prosecutors running for office down here in Texas for a generation. On the county level, other than down in The Valley, there are no Democrats in those positions, in fact Democrats don’t even bother running. So we only see the ads during Republican primaries.
And to top it off, these elected Republican judges of ours in Texas appoint Republican party activists to sit on grand juries or they appoint Republican party activists to choose the grand jury members for them. So please keep in mind that grand juries members are conservatives who are not only on the side of the police, but are quite often retired police officers and their families.
I cannot keep up with what all 50 states do regarding grand juries, but it’s time for BIG GOVERNMENT to step in to at least give it an nanonit of fairness. When cops are involved we need special prosecutors outside the county good old boy network. You know, have Rick Perry and Greg Abbott send there people in to make it more fair.
Perhaps it’s time to ask why Republicans hate the federal government so very very very much? The federal government seems to do three things that really phis off the GOP. Regulate the sale of guns and ammonia nitrate, Enforce the 14th Amendment [equal protection under the law] and the EPA [clean water, clean air and cleaning up chemicals dumped in the ground.
