Texas State Board of Education Include Texas Secession Document

The Texas State Board of Education passed the new text book criteria for 2013-2023 last week. One of the changes was to put president of the Confederate States of America Jefferson Davis’ inaugural speech on equal footing with Abe Lincoln’s inaugural address. It’s all the same you know! Well for the  evangelical fundamentalist creationist white Republican ignorant crackers who control our schools anyway…  The Texas Taliban

Houston Chronicle columnist Rick Casey wrote an interesting column this morning to say that the Jefferson Davis speech was rather tame in not mentioning slavery and could easily be mistaken for today’s Libertarian economics supported by the Ron and Rand Paul Family Circus.

Casey included some passages from the 1861 Texas Declaration of the Causes which Impel the State of Texas to Secede from the Federal Union document. Here follows a couple of the excerpts from that work. What you are about to read won approval by the Texas legislature 166 to 8, with Governor Sam Houston in dissent. Let’s include these passages on equal footing with Abe Lincoln in all Texas text books. And what the Hell, read it as a prayer – it does include God – to being all public meetings in Texas.

We hold as undeniable truths that the governments of the various States, and of the confederacy itself, were established exclusively by the white race, for themselves and their posterity; that the African race had no agency in their establishment; that they were rightfully held and regarded as an inferior and dependent race, and in that condition only could their existence in this country be rendered beneficial or tolerable.

That in this free government all white men are and of right ought to be entitled to equal civil and political rights; that the servitude of the African race, as existing in these States, is mutually beneficial to both bond and free, and is abundantly authorized and justified by the experience of mankind, and the revealed will of the Almighty Creator, as recognized by all Christian nations…

Please keep in mind that the majority of Texans – including teachers – are not only behind the TSBOE changes, but an even greater majority do not believe the Civil War was about  slavery.  But to compensate most everyone down here Dumbutt is very very well armed so they can believe whatever they wish. And anyway Jesus says!
