The Houston Chronicle today published an opinion piece by state representative Carol Alvarado who calls out Texas State School Board to task for it’s silly business of rewriting history to how the very WHITE Evangelical Christian Creationist members see things. Stop curriculum rewrite until new board takes over
It is a good read on how these so called "Christians" have removed mention of Thomas Jefferson from the enlightenment to be replaced by Calvinism and vindicated Joe McCarthy because Ann Coulter says so. And of course my personal favorite which so well defines the intellectual capacity of those who are deciding what 4 million kids will be reading for the next 10 years – the removal of Archbishop Oscar Romero because they never heard of him! Hello? Education! How can we know about him if these noodleheads remove him from history. BTW all you noodleheads reading this, Romero was assassinated in El Salvador for speaking out against a repressive totalitarian government.
Alvarado lists three things that should be done to thwart this jubilee of ignorance.
1) Move the final vote from May until after the election in November, a five month delay. Though unlikely that any Hispanics, Blacks or Democrats will be added to the board, at least two of the seven Creationists have lost their primaries.
2) The board should take the recommendations of the majority of experts and teachers in the field rather than what Glenn Beck and Pat Robertson tell them.
3)No changes shoujd be made without OPEN consultation with experts and teachers in the respected fields PRESENT.
All fine and well until Alvarado gets to the conclusion.
"Once the board has taken these steps, the public should be given another
opportunity to read and comment on the proposed standards before their
final adoption."
HOLD IT RIGHT THERE CAROL! You have way too much confidence in the people of Texas doing the Right Thing. This is the state were doing the Wrong Thing is mandated by Jesus Christ. Who as we all know down here is a very well armed advocate of strapping people down to be executed, and if truth be known, who don’t like Coloreds and Mexicans any more than anyone does.
