I picked the exampled of human intervention in evolution because those are the examples you can see in action.

I said before the evolution works when environmental habitat niches change; creating new optimum traits for survival.

Again the Prof. is much more qualified than I to respond here; but as I understand it (& that’s a HUGE qualification) recent DNA work has shown inter-related qualities among species.

The existence or non-existence of God is not a scientific question. It is a matter of choice & belief. Your choice is no ‘better” or “worse” than the Lt.’s There is no need to prove it.

Whats harder to believe? That IT always was or HE always was?

Take the money out of religion and there aint much left but some people rolling around in the dirt. I suppose in some cultures it is more power than the money though.

Religion comes from NEED not reality. Some need it some don’t. Just dont be pushing it on others and everything is okay…
But once you say MY RELIGION IS TRUE and YOURS ISN’T, bigotry, intolerance, violence, torture, murder and war become inevitable.

And you know this nation was really created by DEISTS, who believed in a creator who lit the fuse Billions and billions of years ago and split. They were rational people well schooled in the irrational religions of not only Europe but New England.
We laugh at the blasphemy laws in the MIddle East but we had heresy and blasphemy laws here that were capital crimes. Missing church on Sunday was against the law.
Look, its all make believe and we ALL KNOW IT’S make believe. We are going to believe what we WANT TO BELIEVE. It is the central problem with humanity.
Watch Fox News lately? The now game is ALL POLLS ARE ALL WRONG done by LIBERALS who are intent upon SUPPRESSING the Republican vote. THey believe because they want to believe it. Ssame with creationism, and global warming, and Birthers, and UFOs and Bigfoot and ghosts.

But the breeding of dogs requires human intervention. In other words the process is not left to itself. I cannot prove the existence of a supreme being, but I still believe one exists. I certainly do not deny laws of physics, chemistry, and mathematics. They govern the universe. I believe that 2 x 3 = 6 as much as you do, and that it takes nine months from conception to the birth of a human baby. It’s all science. But calling things the way I see them, none of the above negates a creator who I believe is the originator of all science.
So what if I can’t prove it. Must we prove everything before we believe? And no. There are no consequences for disagreeing.

“Genetics works” Traits are heritable. Good first step. And you talk of billions of years. Good. We know about geologic time.

Now people have been breeding various breeds of dog for a while. In that time though you’ve got St. Bernards, Collies, Retreivers, Shepherds, Scotties, and (those little yappy things, I forget the name of). Yet they’re all “dogs”. Do you assert that they are all inter-breedable? ‘Cause if not; then you’ve got at least two different species by definition. If even one breed can’t reproduce with another; you’ve got differentation of species & evolution working

Horses & Donkeys can’t inter-breed successfully.

I would contend that dogs are at or near the point of split now.

Now to your cat comment. Maybe. Evolution works when the habitat changes so that what was successful in the past is no longer successful. If nothing changes in the environment; there would be no need for cats to change & thus they wouldn’t. Dogs have been changing because of direct human interference. Evolution doesn’t just happen. It is the result of environmental need.

No, but genetics might.
Barring birth defects, animals reproduce after their kind. If house cats kept on reproducing for the next billion years, and we could travel in time to one billion years from now, the kittens would look the same as they do today; and they would grow up to be cats that look the same as they do today in 2012.

Newton’s Laws, Kepler’s Law, Maxwell’s Law, the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus….we even mixed hydrochloric acid and sodom, er, sodium hydroxide (Freudian slip, sorry) and got table salt and water just as we predicted. Fossils prove only that the creatures existed, not that they evolved. Stars and galaxies millions of light years away, the human body, etc. More evidence to me that there is a Creator. Science doesn’t negate creation. Would you have us believe that something can come from nothing?
