Video: Jon Stewart California Prop 8 overturned and the 14th Amendment

"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws." 14th Amendment 1868 – Section 1. The other 3 sections of the amendment have to do with insurrection and  are not part of the issue at hand.

There ya go, Equal Protection and Due Process, the basis of civil rights, or as Republicans call it, the reviled multiculturalism! The conservative movement has been aching  to get rid of both clauses since it was written in 1868, especially after Brown v Board of Education in 1954, and then again after 1965 when the Republican Southern Strategy began. For just as LBJ predicted after he signed the Civil Rights Act, the Democratic South moved fast and furious and in mass to the GOP. That Southern Strategy is now called the Republican Strategy.

The Republicans meddling with that paragraph – which so much law is based upon – help them not only rid this once proud "melting pot" of our of Hispanics – which they no longer make any bones about disliking so intensely they are willing to change the constitution to rid themselves of them – but it will also serve the GOP to put blacks, gays and lesbians back in their place.
