This story triggered something that makes my drum sound different. Something I do not fully understand, for as I walked it around the block I found myself having to defend Sarah Palin.

I find I cannot build up any angst directed toward Lindsey, Blogo or Levi. In fact my heart goes out to them all and I wish them only the best. I understand they are not heroes, or role models, or even innocents (and neither am I), but their sins are what average people would do under the same circumstances. It’s the paparazzi and the cable news cycle that makes these average people acting in average ways seem evil.

It is the same with Sister Sarah. She is just an average girl of average intelligence from an average trailer park who fell into something and is cashing in on it, as most anyone would do. One could almost say the same of Joe the Plumber but is a few notches below average so he died of the vine.

Give these people a break. They are just average Americans who are in way over their heads is all.

Hmmm… From this reasoning I suppose I must also defend George W. Bush, Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck. I guess even altruism has its limits.
