This could as easily have been my brother in law rather than someone’s wife… With that said…
You see how easy it would be for some dude, all dressed up in Christian Bling, sitting in a building full of those who all believe everything he says, to get this women to believe not only the unbelievable, but nasty, onerous, intolerant bigoted unbelievable crap?
A big eye opener for me was some 30 years ago just after I moved to Texas. We had Darla come clean the house twice a month. Darla was about 25, a single mother who often brought her 5 year old. She always wore Jesus t-shirts. She was very blonde and over weight. After about a year of getting to know us I was surprised to find her at our front door on Good Friday. She told me her Pentecostal Church – that’s the one where the Devil lives in your digestive track and must be purged with vomiting and speaking in tongues – was requiring each member to bring an new family into the fold for Easter services.
"Would you and your wife please come to my Pentecostal Church this Sunday?" Darla asked
"Oh Darla, I guess you may not have noticed, but we are Jewish." I replied
"Oh, what difference does that make?" Darla asked a bit confused.
"Well, it means we do not believe in Jesus Christ." I explained
"Jews do not believe in our Lord Jesus Christ? I had no idea! Are you sure?" She asked in bewilderment
"Yeah, pretty sure on that Darla."
"Oh well, I guess that is a no then? Or could you come anyway?"
Ignorance is the key to dogmatic belief. As Rick Santorum has said so well, it is education that gets people to think beyond what they are told to think. Teacher! Leave those kids alone! Home schooled and no college is what keeps them from questioning and staying ignorant intolerant nitwits their entire lives. Dumbing them down is what keeps them in business…
