The Texas Republican primaries drew 9% of the GOP electorate, or about 6% of the eligible voters in Texas. This, second to the money, is the biggest deterrent to what we pretend to call Democracy in America.
Texas Right-wing radio host and Tea Party darling Dan Patrick [as bad as it gets] smashed David Dewhurst 44% to 27% in the Texas Lt Governor primary. It is projected that the coming runoff election will give Patrick as much as a 3 to 1 victory with the other two players out of the fray.
You remember David Dewhurst? In 2012 he lost a primary run for the US Senate to Ted Cruz by 14 points. Mr Dewhurst is an NRA, anti immigration, anti gay marriage, Pro Life, impeach Obama Texas Christian conservative. So no wonder he lost to both Ted Cruz and Dan Patrick who are both NRA, anti immigration, anti gay marriage, Pro Life, impeach Obama HARDCORE EVANGELICAL Christian Conservatives.
Dan Patrick’s success is based primarily upon how well he plays the ugly card of Christian bigotry and intolerance. Did you know that Mexicans bring Leprosy to Texas! And that those without documents are murderers, drug runners and rapists? I could go on and on, but leave it to say I do not believe there is an uglier, nastier, meaner, right-wing piece of sht in any federal or statewide elected office in America than Dan Patrick.
Let me just add one personal note to this.
Dan Patrick is a multi-millionaire radio talk show host which he has been since he bought the two biggest talk radio stations in Texas in Dallas and Houston.
In the Summer of 1997 I happened to be listening to Rush Limbaugh on one of Patrick’s radio stations. Limbaugh was calling for the impeachment of President Clinton. It seems the President and his wife were complicit in going to New Mexico, or had sent “their people” go start a massive wildfire in the hopes of destroying parts of Los Alamos where a Chinaman had hidden a hard dive that contained the proof that President Clinton and the First Lady had conspired to give the hydrogen bomb blueprints to Communist China. [Everything in the story Limbaugh told turned out to be a lie] The following day I was listening to Dan Patrick who comes on just before Limbaugh pick up on the story, repeat it and add his Christian spin that the President and the First Lady should be executed for treason.
This is the kind of guy we love down here in Texas. No Texas politician has ever directed more animus, hate, vitriol and bile toward Hispanics than this guy, who in a few years will become the last Republican Governor of Texas.
